I remember one day when I was in boarding school, I decided to be diligent and get my bucket of water the night before. I stored it away and woke up the next morning to find a virtually empty bucket. I was initially confused and angry, thinking someone had stolen my water overnight. Summoning courage, I joined the queue to refill my bucket—after all, I had to get ready for school that morning. It was during my second filling that I realized the bucket had a pinpoint leak I hadn’t noticed. It was barely noticeable, but it was enough to empty the bucket overnight.

This analogy holds true for our lives. Leaking vessels will eventually become empty. Whatever resource you might have—time, money, energy, and so on—once it starts leaking away, it will eventually run out.

As we prepare to enter the new year, this is something we must be vigilant about. Regardless of how much good you intend to do with your money, if it keeps leaking away on useless direct debits and impulsive buys, it won’t amount to anything. Regardless of how much you hope to achieve with your time, if you keep wasting it on flimsy distractions like YouTube shorts, TikToks, and WhatsApp status updates, it will not amount to anything.

Take time to assess the areas of your life that may have “leaks.” Are there habits or behaviors draining your resources without yielding fruit? Patch those leaks now, because small, unnoticed drains can lead to significant loss over time.

Remember, diligence is not just about hard work; it’s also about preserving what you already have.

As the Bible says in Haggai 1:6 (NIV):
“You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.”

Let this verse remind us that we cannot afford to ignore the little things that drain our lives, lest we end up working hard but having little to show for it. May this be a year of fixing leaks, guarding our resources, and channeling them into what truly matters.

On a final note, I would like to thank you all for the time you’ve invested in reading my posts this year. Thank you for all the reposts and comments. I am indeed grateful.

Compliments of the season and see you all in 2025!
