I once watched a documentary on the world’s fattest people and what I realized is that they didn’t get there overnight. It was a slow accumulation of extra calories(one extra pizza or fried-chicken or burger), small choices that, over time, added up to something overwhelming. Eventually, they reached a point where their bodies became a prison, unable to move under the crushing weight. Despite this, they still need to keep eating to stay alive, feeding the very thing that holds them back. It’s a frustrating cycle.
In our own lives, we carry weight in different forms: stress, fear, unresolved pain, or bad habits. Like the world’s heaviest people, these burdens don’t start out massive. Instead, they build up gradually, with each new worry or choice we make. At first, we manage. But over time, it can feel like we’re stuck, weighed down by the things we’ve accumulated. The more we let it pile up, the harder it becomes to move forward.
Yet, just as shedding physical weight starts with small steps, so does freeing ourselves from emotional and spiritual weight. We don’t have to fix everything at once. The key is to start somewhere—whether it’s letting go of a small grudge/break-up(remember breakfast na national cake), facing a fear, or breaking a toxic habit.
“Small actions, done consistently, create momentum and lead to greater freedom.”
The Bible speaks directly to this concept in Hebrews 12:1: “Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” In the Christian life, sin and spiritual baggage can weigh us down just as much as physical burdens. We are called to release these things, trusting that with God’s help, we can break free from what entangles us.
Just like someone shedding hundreds of pounds, we can experience spiritual transformation step by step. I must say, it is easier said than done. We don’t need to stay stuck. When we release our burdens—whether emotional, mental, or spiritual—we begin to walk in the freedom and grace that God intends for us. Start small, trust the process, and take the steps toward the life you were meant to live.
Have an amazing weekend!

Beautiful write up..thank you Samuel ❤️
👌
It is realistic to remember that the weights came on gradually and as such will most likely need to come off gradually as well.
