Working in a top-tier healthcare system has been eye-opening. Every day, I get to see just how far medicine has come and how much it’s improving people’s lives.
One thing that really fascinates me is the cardiac pacemaker—a tiny device that helps the heart beat in rhythm. It’s amazing how something so small can make such a big difference.
Did you know your heart beats about 100,000 times a day? It just quietly does its job—no fanfare, no attention-seeking. But for some people, illness messes up that rhythm. The heart starts beating too slowly or in an irregular pattern, and that throws everything off—blood doesn’t flow properly, and people can feel dizzy, tired, or even pass out.
That’s where a pacemaker steps in. It sends tiny electrical signals to keep the heartbeat steady and strong. Simple idea, huge impact.
Watching patients get better with pacemakers made me think: isn’t that exactly how God works in our lives sometimes?
We often look for God in the big, dramatic moments—breakthroughs, miracles, clear answers. But most of the time, His work is quiet. Like a pacemaker, God is there in the background, keeping us going, giving us just enough strength for the next step.
There’s a story in the Bible (1 Kings 19) about a prophet named Elijah. He was exhausted and scared, hiding in a cave. He expected God to show up in some powerful way—through a storm or fire—but instead, God came in a gentle whisper.
That whisper changed everything for him.
Every time I see someone with a pacemaker, I’m reminded of how God works in my own life—steady, faithful, often unnoticed, but absolutely essential.
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
— Psalm 73:26
