Lessons From An Evil Spirit

While gathering my thoughts for this week’s write-up, I found myself struggling to settle on an appropriate title. Every idea that came to mind seemed inadequate, but I eventually went with the topic that prompted you to click this.

Typically, when we study the Bible, we focus on the characters and their actions or inactions to take lessons for our lives. However, it’s unusual to extract lessons from an evil spirit. Nonetheless, hear me out – abeg.

The premise for this discussion is found in 2 Timothy 3:16a (AMP): “All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable…”. Since we agree that all scripture is profitable, let’s jump right in.

Case in view, Matthew 12:43-45
43 “When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order. 45 Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So also will it be with this evil generation.”

For a change, let’s learn from the unclean spirit in this story shared by Jesus.

First, we see the unclean spirit being expelled from a place it considered home, I can imagine how disturbed it must have been. In life, we often face situations that disrupt our comfort zones. Like this spirit, rather than lament, we should explore new possibilities. The spirit searches through dry places seeking rest but finds none. Similarly, we may encounter barren periods in our search for new opportunities but this shouldn’t deter us.

Eventually, the spirit decides to revisit its former abode. Sometimes, we too can be quick to give up, but as a friend of mine says, “If you don’t know where to go, go where you know”.

Upon returning, the spirit finds its old home empty, swept, and in order. Instead of immediately reclaiming the space, which would likely lead to the same outcome as before, the spirit enlists seven others more evil than itself. This action highlights the wisdom of not repeating the same mistakes. As a wise person once said, insanity is doing the same thing the same way and expecting different results. By seeking stronger partners, the spirit ensures its dominion is more secure.

This story underscores the importance of partnership and collaboration in achieving significant goals. Just as the unclean spirit sought allies to solidify its position, we too must recognize the value of strategic partnerships. By collaborating with those who can provide strength and support, we increase our chances of success and dominion in our spheres of influence. Partnership is not merely an option; it is a vital strategy for achieving and maintaining great accomplishments.

Just incase you didn’t read through the entire article, I have highlighted the major points below for you:

  • Explore new possibilities when facing disruptions in your comfort zone.
  • Don’t give up easily; revisit previous opportunities if necessary.
  • Avoid repeating the same mistakes; seek new approaches.
  • Value strategic partnerships to strengthen and secure your position.
  • Collaboration is essential for achieving and maintaining success and influence.

Have a great weekend.
