In Nigeria, there’s a popular card game called JACKPOT. The rules are simple and straightforward: you are given a set of cards that have been shuffled, typically about 4 or 5. The goal is to ensure all your cards either match in shape or number. Once you achieve this, your teammate needs to say “JACKPOT” before your opponents ‘suspect’ you, then you score a point.
So, how does your teammate know when to talk? You communicate using a subtle sign that your opponents shouldn’t notice. Why won’t your opponents ‘suspect’ you all the time if that stops you from scoring points? Because they get penalized for wrongly suspecting you.
Why have I just gone through the trouble of explaining ‘JACKPOT’? Kindly pay attention.
As spiritual beings, God constantly tries to communicate with us, leading us on the right path. God is rooting for you, but many times, we aren’t paying attention. Much like the game of JACKPOT, sometimes, your partner (God) is trying to get your agreed sign to you, but distractions block your view.
In his book, *Leading Seeks You*, my mentor Apostle Emmanuel Iren emphasizes that God actually wants to speak with you more than you want to speak with Him. The Bible is full of examples where God reaches out and speaks to people from all walks of life—young, old, male, female, servant, king, poor, rich, priests, and unbelievers alike.
The prophet Isaiah tells us, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” (Isaiah 30:21, NIV). This illustrates how God seeks to guide us daily.
Perhaps this is your cue to eliminate distractions and tune into His frequency so that you can hear Him clearly. What better way to hear God than by reading His written word? The Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 10:17, “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.”
As you go through the rest of the year, immerse yourself in reading His word, and watch your relationship with Him flourish, ultimately enhancing your quality of life.
Remember, God loves you more than you love yourself.
Have a great weekend!
