Have you ever ignored a message on purpose?
Let’s be honest, have you ever received a message, you read it, smiled, then said, “I’ll reply later” and that “later” is still loading till today.
Don’t worry, this is a safe space, no judgment as per we listen we don’t judge.
I remember one guy back in school very calm guy, very decent and demure guy, he liked this lady and thankfully he wasn’t one of those Christian brothers that would start with;
“I really like the way you led worship today.”
Or…
“Your understanding of Scriptures is exceptional.”
Or my personal favourite…
“I perceive great depth in your walk with God.”
My brother, those are observations. Many Christians brothers don’t have lines and introductory statement.
This brother was not conversation starters. This brother was normal, he was a leggit guy. He knew how to gist, he knew how to ask sensible questions.
He wasn’t trying to cast out demons before saying hello.
Even once in a while, he’d send a simple message.
“Hope your day went well?” No response
A few days later…
“How are exams going?” Nothing.
Weeks later…
“Just checking on you.” Nothing.
Now here’s the funny part. One day, I was sitting with this same lady, her phone rang, she looked at it and smiled. I saw the brother’s name, I almost shouted,
“Finally! My brother has scored.”
She opened the message, read everything, smiled again, locked her phone and continued pressing her own phone.
No reply, five minutes passed nothing, I couldn’t hold myself. I asked her, hey sister… are you not replying?
She said, “I saw it. I just don’t feel like replying.”
I felt that one, is this hard to get or something.
Then something struck me years later, how many times has God “buzzed” our hearts?
Not with an audible voice, just one Scripture that refused to leave your mind.
One sermon that felt like the preacher borrowed your diary.
One friend who called at exactly the right time.
One conviction you couldn’t shake.
One gentle nudge from the Holy Spirit.
You saw it, you knew it was Him, you even smiled. Then you said, “I’ll deal with this later.”
The thing that amazes me isn’t that we sometimes ignore God.
The thing that amazes me is that He doesn’t stop reaching.
If I were God, some of us would have been blocked since secondary school.
But that’s not how He loves. He keeps coming, He keeps calling, He keeps inviting.
Read your Bible carefully, from Genesis to Revelation, you’ll meet a God who almost always makes the first move.
Adam was hiding but God came looking for him.
Israel wandered, God kept sending prophets to them. Peter left Jesus assignment to fish, Jesus made breakfast for him and those with him.
Saul was busy persecuting Christians, Jesus interrupted his journey.
The gospel isn’t the story of man searching for God, it’s the story of God searching for man.
Romans5:8 – But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
And when we finally respond, He doesn’t ask, “So, why did you ignore My messages?”
He forgives, He restores, He adopts and then He seals us with His Spirit.
Now that’s the LOVE that refuses to give up.
God is always on the lookout and He’s never tired to say child be bold and courageous, just come home unto your father.
Jesus said,
Matt.11.28 – Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:29-30 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Maybe you don’t need an extra person in your circle, maybe all you need is to pick up that message and respond appropriately.
