BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER

Earlier this week while moving around the yard, I saw five birds flying across the sky. They were just moving freely, mindlessly, unbothered that anyone was observing them from a distance. What made them stand out to me was that they were the same kind, the same species, and the way they were flying showed a kind of rhythm that looked almost intentional. They were not colliding with each other because it was as if they understood that the sky was wide enough to contain all of them. So there was no need to clash. They simply moved together, in the same direction, with the same flow, the same invisible sense of purpose.

And one thing you can hardly ever see is birds of different kinds flying in that kind of unison. It doesn’t happen. It just reminded me of the idea that alignment matters. When creatures share the same nature and the same instinct, their movement automatically becomes smoother and more meaningful. That was when the thought dropped in my mind again: birds of a feather flock together. It is the same way God shows us that the right company accelerates your journey. The Bible puts it clearly in Ecclesiastes 4:9 that two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labour. With the right people around you, your movement becomes easier and faster.

One of the most underrated gifts God has given mankind is the gift of human resources. People always pray for money or material things. Give me this, give me that. But very early in life, God showed me something different. He said the greatest gift you can ask Him for is the gift of people. Destiny helpers. Strategic relationships. People who make your journey shorter and lighter. People who shield you from traps, who encourage you when things get rough, who strengthen you spiritually, mentally and emotionally. Having the right people around you can make a whole journey feel less burdensome.

But while observing those birds, something else became clear. It is not just about having people around you. It is about having your kind around you. People who think the way you think and share your vision. People who see what you see (Amos 3:3). People who value purpose, growth and positivity. Because surrounding yourself with negative thinkers will soon affect how you think. Surrounding yourself with small minded people will slowly reduce the size of your own vision. The Bible even warns about this in 1 Corinthians 15:33 that bad company corrupts good character. So, if your company is wrong, your movement may still be happening, but it will never be in sync.

So this is my charge this morning. As you go through your daily activities, your weekly plans and even your yearly goals, be intentional about the kind of relationships you build. Surround yourself with people who align with your purpose, people who stretch your capacity, people who make your journey clearer. Yes, these kinds of people are rare, but with prayer, anything is possible. Jesus said in Matthew 7:7 that if you ask, you will receive and if you seek, you will find. So if you want the right kind of people around you, ask God and He will guide them to you.

Thank you for listening.

Lord, I receive the grace to be the kind if person people would want to be a part of their lives and I ask that you orchestrate my steps to meet the kind of people that would spur me to be more.
