The Joy of Unexpected Blessings

Have you ever found yourself trying to plan the perfect surprise gift for someone?

Picture this: the person in question has no idea what you’re up to, completely unaware of the thought and effort you’re pouring into creating a moment that will light up their face with joy. Meanwhile, they’re likely caught up in their own routine, just trying to make it through the day.

Perhaps they’re thinking about the quickest way to get home and warm Èbà some white rice and stew in the fridge, completely unaware that a surprise party awaits them that very night—complete with enough leftovers to last a week. Or maybe they’re quietly praying for a new phone, not knowing someone already placed an order for it two weeks ago, with delivery scheduled for tomorrow.

I had a moment like this recently. While shopping for New Year’s gifts for my bosses, I couldn’t help but wonder what they were doing at that moment. Maybe they were going through their packed schedules, planning meetings and consultations, and completely unaware that someone was out there trying to make them feel appreciated with a thoughtful gift.

And that’s the essence of life, isn’t it?

We go about our daily routines, tackling challenges, and sometimes, we don’t realize that someone is preparing a pleasant surprise for us. In fact, it’s a comforting reminder of the unseen kindness and goodwill that often surrounds us. Whether it’s the love of those close to us or the divine plans that God orchestrates, we are often cared for in ways we can’t yet see.

The Bible reminds us of this in Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

And as Lawrence Oyor sang – ‘Favour, it surrounds me like a shield, it will cover me from now until the day I see my king’.

Life is full of surprises, many of which are already in motion while we’re busy worrying or just getting by. Sometimes, the things we’ve prayed for are on their way, even though we don’t see them yet. So, take heart. There’s beauty in the surprises we don’t see coming—both from the people around us and from a God who always has our best interests at heart.

Have a great weekend!
